FAMILY PLACE (NOT A DAYCARE OR PRESCHOOL)
Family Place, located behind the Community Centre, and operated by SSI Community Services is a family focused drop-in and resource centre for young parents and children. The center is open Monday to Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. to noon as an informal meeting place and play area. A regular schedule of educational workshops and special events is locally advertised. B.C. Ministry accredited, nondenominational, independent school offering small class sizes and a superb education, kindergarten to grade 9. FULFORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Located in the south end of the island offering kindergarten to grade 5. Strong commitment to children and nature through ecological learning. All students receive musical instruction twice a week.
PHOENIX ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
A small, family-orientated school located on a treed acreage near Ganges. Maximum enrollment of 42 in kindergarten to grade eight. Safe, nurturing and open learning environment. Welcomes and encourages family involvement. Believes in a strong arts education. Encourages exploration and respect for nature. Allows for flexible attendance to accommodate home schooling needs.
Has over 300 students in grades 6-8. Approximately 70 of these students are enrolled in the Late French Immersion program. Practical Arts exploratories: woodworking, food preparation, textiles, forensic science, leadership, conflict resolution , orienteering, computer skill and environmental studies. Fine Arts exploratories are: graphic arts, dance, theatre, and band instruction at all levels.
GULF ISLANDS SECONDARY SCHOOL
The Gulf Island Secondary School services all of the Southern Gulf Islands. Youth from the outer islands are brought by water taxi each morning. The school offers grades 9-12 with over 600 students and 68 international student. Full academic programs in the arts and sciences. Expansive fine arts and applied skill programs. French Immersion as well as French & Spanish classes are taught. All major athletic programs.
PHOENIX HIGH SCHOOL
Offers grades 7-12 with approximately 35 students. Self-directed and self-paced pursuit of graduation “Dogwood”. Opportunities to explore areas of special interest. Flexible scheduling with instruction in core Math and English. Future Studies Program provides students with a fascinating amalgam of the sciences and humanities.
